Complete Concentrates®
Complete Concentrates bridge the gap between traditional and standardized herbs by using an all-natural extract in a base of raw herb. When it comes to our Complete Concentrate® line, we bring you the best of both worlds by providing herbs that are:

Standardized: Meaning they contain consistent, high potency amounts of active constituents, without sacrificing other compounds of the plant.

Full Spectrum: All constituents are represented in the same ratios as found in the plant.

Free of Harmful Solvents: We only use water or natural, food-grade alcohol; unlike other companies that may use hexane, acetone, or methanol.

Free from Artificial Fillers, Flowing Agents, and Excipients: We only use the pure, raw herb in our capsules; unlike other companies that may use magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, silicone dioxide, or other agents.

Ingredients:

185 mg of Milk Thistle seed extract (standardized to 80% Silymarin) in an active base of 290 mg raw Milk Thistle seed.  Other Ingredients: Vegetarian source capsules and water.

  1. Our featured supplement for this week is milk thistle. The scientific name of this plant is Silybum Marianum. Belive it or not, the species Marianum was assigned to the particular type of thistle with splashes of white on the leaves because it was thought that some of the Virgin Mary’s breast milk dropped onto the thistle while she was nursing the baby Jesus. This story alone gives us a clue that milk thistle has been in use for a very long time. In fact, it has been used to heal liver disorders in Europe for over 2000 years.

Along with its amazing background story, milk thistle has some pretty amazing properties. While all parts of the plant have been used for food during its long history, the part that is used most often in modern times is the seeds. These seeds contain a bioflavonoid complex called silymarin, which, like other bioflavonoid complexes, is a powerful antioxidant. It is used to protect liver tissue from damage by toxins as well as heal and regenerate liver tissue that has already been damaged. This is great news for those who have damaged their liver with alcohol, street drugs, and strong prescription medications. It is also used to treat hepatitis, gallbladder problems, varicose veins, low breast milk production in nursing mothers, and skin disorders. In general, it is very safe for human consumption and highly recommended for anyone who lives in our toxic modern society.

Silymarin is not water soluble, so, in order to be effective, it must be taken in forms that are more bioavailable than a traditional tea. Some argue that an alcohol extract is the only way to get enough silymarin to produce significant results. However, many researchers agree that if you take a couple of tablespoons of ground seeds daily, you can still get good results. Milk thistle is available in both capsule and extract form at MyNaturalVitamins.com.

  2. There have been a number of studies lately that have shown that mega-doses of vitamin C can be harmful in large doses. For example, an ABC News report in the summer cited a University of Pennsylvania study that found that vitamin C can help produce a toxin that damages genetic material and may lead to the development of cancer cells. Although the doctor who was interviewed in the story insisted that the results were preliminary and therefore inconclusive, it still made many people nervous to find tried-and-true vitamin C associated with DNA damage and cancer. A different study done at the University of Southern California back in 2000 found a link between taking mega-doses of vitamin C and arteriosclerosis (clogging and hardening of the arteries).

One point that was not stressed in these studies is that the vitamin C they used was ascorbic acid, which had been isolated from the other natural antioxidant compounds that work together with vitamin C. These natural compounds include C complex, rutin, hesperidin, and citrus bioflavonoids, collectively known in some esoteric circles as vitamin P. Vitamin P (known as the "capillary permeability factor") is necessary for vitamin C to be absorbed and used properly by the body. The bioflavonoids in particular strengthen the capillaries and regulate absorption. This supplement is highly recommended for people who tend to have bleeding gums and/or edema (swelling due to fluid retention). It is also recommended for menopausal women who have hot flashes. Vitamin C and Vitamin P are found in the white part under the skin of citrus fruit and also in buckwheat, blackberries, cherries, apricots, and rose hips. They are also available from MyNaturalVitamins.com in supplement form.
